Turnout at
the convention was wonderful, with over three
hundred delegates (and all alternates became
delegates) at our county caucus. Our state
committee members are Casey Bromberg, Gary
Dawbin, Ed Lachowicz, Mary McKeen, and Debbie
Whitehouse. Remember, state committee meetings
are almost always held in Augusta, and are
open to all Democrats. Later on tonight we
will elect our alternates, as well as an
assistant treasurer, who will help treasurer
Linda McKee keep track of our checkbook, file
simple reports to the Ethics Commission, and
coordinate fundraising efforts.
Phone banking is
going on six (yes, you heard me right) days a
week at the state party office in Augusta.
Canvassing is also happening most Saturday
mornings. This Saturday is something special,
a unity canvass, which I’m hoping will
happen in every town in our county. Now that
the Maine primaries are over, and we have a
presidential candidate, it’s time to come
together, roll up our sleeves, and work to get
Democrats elected. Opportunities for
volunteers are out there, folks. Remember 2004
and understand that talk is just not enough.
Thanks to our
generous donors, and tireless efforts at
fundraising by folks like Janet Cowperthwaite
who organized last fall’s Democratic Family
Reunion Dinner and Auction, we have enough
money to open a campaign office in August and
are actively looking for space in Gardiner or
Hallowell. The coordinated campaign will also
open an office in Waterville. We’ll be
needing donations (or loans) of office
furniture, coffee maker, microwave oven,
supplies, and whatever else would be
appropriate. Sarah Fuller is heading this
initiative.
