Rep. Tom Allen Announces $68,396 Fire Grant to Albion Volunteer Fire Department

"This grant will help protect the volunteer firefighters who risk their lives for the people of Albion and nearby communities"

Portland, Maine (Thursday, July 3, 2008)U.S. Representative Tom Allen announced today that the Federal Emergency Management Agency of the U.S. Department of Homeland Security has awarded a $68,396 Assistance to Firefighters Grant (AFG) to the Albion Volunteer Fire Department. AFG grants enable Maine communities to pay for training programs and safety equipment, improve health and safety at first response facilities and fund wellness and fitness programs for their first responders.

"This grant will help protect the volunteer firefighters who risk their lives for the people of Albion and nearby communities," said Rep. Allen. "The funds will be devoted to improving the Department’s operations and safety."

Two years ago, the Albion Volunteer Fire Department was awarded a $262,200 Assistance to Firefighters Grant which was used for the purchase of a fire vehicle.
